Robin Ormerod, Co-Founder PAE/Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board

Robin is a co-founder of PEL and PAE, and is one of Australia’s leading figures in air quality management.

Robin has over 27 years’ consulting experience in air quality and atmospheric science, following a period in climate research. He has conducted numerous impact studies and environmental risk management projects for a wide range of industries in Australia and overseas, and has contributed to significant public policy projects relating to air quality. He has also developed new methodologies and techniques in air quality and odour assessment that are widely used.

Under Robin’s guidance, PAE has become one of the southern hemisphere’s most respected air quality and meteorology consultancies, with an international clientele. The company has attracted highly qualified and respected experts to its team from many parts of the world.

Robin was the chairperson of the Odour Special Interest Group of the Clean Air Society of Australia & New Zealand (CASANZ) from 2001 to 2004, during which time he chaired international conferences and workshops on odour, and fostered developments in odour assessment. He has been invited onto the scientific and organising committees of international conferences in odour and air quality. He received the Distinguished Service Medal from CASANZ and is also a Certified Consulting Meteorologist, accredited by the American Meteorological Society.

His skills and experience are widely sought after in legal and planning proceedings. He has appeared as an expert witness for air quality and odour-related planning cases and prosecutions in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and New Zealand, and has given expert advice in cases in the US.

Robin chairs PEL's Scientific Advisory Board, which comprises international experts in disciplines important to the company's knowledge base and business development.
 

Kristin Zeise, Co-Founder PAE

Kristin co-founded PEL with Robin Ormerod and is the co-managing director of PAE. She has widespread experience in air quality consulting, especially in inventory development, emissions estimation and greenhouse gas assessment.

Since 1990, Kristin has completed projects for environmental protection agencies in NSW and Queensland, national environmental reporting bodies such as the National Pollution Inventory, and global organisations such as OECD; as well as many companies in the private sector. In addition to working in Australia and New Zealand, Kristin has also worked internationally in the United States and South East Asia.

Kristin’s knowledge of source characterisation of emissions and understanding of industrial processing methods underpins her work in assessing the environmental impact of industrial operations.

 

Jean Vincent, Co-Founder PAE

Jean co-founded PAE along with Robin Ormerod and Kristin Zeise, and has  played an integral part in the company's development ever since. She is currently responsible for the general management of the company, and directs a dedicated administration team.

On a day-to-day basis, Jean looks after the financial and administrative aspects of Pacific Environment Limited ensuring the business runs efficiently and according to plan. She also  oversees client relations and business development in Pacific Air & Environment.

 

Nigel Holmes, Founder Holmes Air Sciences

Nigel has a PhD in physics and over 30 years research and consulting experience in the fields of atmospheric science and air pollution including three years post-doctoral work at the University of Lancaster and three years as lecturer in the physics department at the Western Australian Institute of Technology (now Curtin University).

Nigel has expertise in dispersion modelling and meteorology and has worked on environmental assessments for numerous projects in Australia and overseas, including roads, power stations, coal mines, uranium mines and a wide range of other industries. He was the co-developer, with Ken Richmond, of the original dispersion model used in the Victorian EPA's Plume Calculation Procedure, then known as ISCMOD and now known as AUSPLUME.

As well as detailed understanding of technical issues, he has experience in community consultation and has assisted clients in commissions of inquiry, panel hearings and court cases. He has worked in all states and territories in Australia, and has worked in project management and in specialist roles in New Zealand, PNG, Malaysia, Hong Kong, India, Oman, Ukraine and Kenya. He has also worked in the UK and US. Clients include the World Bank and Asian Development Bank, as well as private sector organisations.

From 1990 to 1993 he was a member of the Australian Academy of Science Committee for Atmosperhic and Climate Sciences in Australia, and is currently the Mineral Council of Australia's industry representative on the Peer Review Committee for the implementation of the National Environment Protection Measures (Air).
